Dr Sean O’Donoghue and Ms Penny Price of eThekwini Municipality’s Environmental Planning and Climate Protection Department (EPCPD) who both serve on the DAC Secretariat will be attending the Conference of the Parties- COP20 in Lima, Peru, taking place from 1st – 12th December 2014. COP20 will bring together political leaders and climate change specialists to discuss approaches to addressing global climate change. The conference is expected to lay the foundation for COP21’s universal climate change agreement in Paris in 2015.
Sean and Penny will present the Durban Adaptation Charter during one of the high level segments in Lima, which will provide the opportunity to communicate the progress achieved by the DAC to a wide audience. In addition the DAC Secretariat will also be launching an adaptation reporting page for local governments at COP20 that will form part of the existing Carbonn Climate Registry. This will effectively provide a single, streamlined platform for cities to report their adaptation and mitigation efforts. While in Lima, Sean and Penny will also be engaging in discussions with Latin American cities, like Bogota, to establish DAC Regional Hub partnerships in South America.
Penny and Sean will be keeping us up to date regarding the proceedings on Twitter @DurbanCharter using the hashtags #COP20 and #DAC.
