The DAC Secretariat hopes that you have been making good progress in implementing your city’s climate change response, especially in terms of adaptation. As you may be aware, cities have a formal mandate from the Paris Agreement at COP21 last year, and it is now important that we report our efforts on the premier city global reporting platform, the carbonn Climate Registry (cCR).
The UNFCCC COP22 is now only eight weeks away, and ICLEI are making an effort to reach out to as many cities as possible to update their cCR profiles in advance. Reporting effort has a number of advantages:
- For cities that update their profile in the next couple of weeks (first week of October), ICLEI will be able to include their information in their annual report and materials at COP22.
- For those cities that update their information by COP22 (early November), ICLEI will have their information online on the carbonn website with the DAC logo.
To be included online and in the report, all the DAC local government signatory needs to do is register on the cCR platform at http://carbonn.org/join/ccr-registration/ and report at least their adaptation commitment (to the DAC) and at least 1 adaptation action.
Cities are encouraged to complete more of the reporting sheet on mitigation and adaptation actions, but ahead of COP22 this minimum reporting requirement will allow ICLEI to get these DAC local government signatories into the database and ensure that they are counted amongst cities who are taking local climate action. The reporting platform also produces an individual and useful city report which can be used in internal city reporting processes.
